Differences between 1.5 and a 3.0 Tesla MRI machines
Friday, 06 November 2009 12:36

In a recent article in Diagnostic Imaging, Karen Sandrick a freelance writer highlights the differences between 1.5 and a 3.0 Tesla MRI machines.

According to Dr. Keith Thulborn, director of MR research at the University of Illinois at Chicago, routine brain imaging at 3 tesla can be done more efficiently than at 1.5 tesla. A standard 3–tesla MRI brain scan, including fast spin–echo, FLAIR, gradient–echo, and high–resolution pre– and postcontrast whole brain imaging, can be completed in 30 minutes and still leave time to turn the table around.

Elite Imaging's new Women's Center Introduces Digital Mammography, with the Latest Technology, in Miami Beach Florida
Friday, 06 November 2009 12:16

Women who undergo routine mammograms at Elite Imaging's Women's Center on Miami Beach now have the latest diagnostic technology available to them, digital mammography.

Elite Imaging is very excited to be able to offer the newest technology for breast cancer detection. Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is viewed and, more importantly, manipulated.

The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and invert the black and white values while reading the images. These features allow the radiologist to evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern.

To supplement this technology, Elite Imaging has incorporated digital Computer-Aided Detection (CAD). Digital CAD highlights characteristics commonly associated with breast cancer. When activated, it flags abnormalities to help the radiologist detect early breast cancer. CAD is, in essence, a second set of eyes to support and enhance the radiologist's judgment.

Digital mammography feels identical to conventional screening from a patient’s perspective, though women may notice shorter exam times and a reduction in call-backs to obtain additional images. Demand for the digital mammography is high, and women are excited and pleased that Elite Imaging Women's Center offers this state-of-the-art technology.

Elite Imaging's Women's Center on Miami Beach's primary mission is to offer high quality, acute health care and preventative medical care in a caring and compassionate manner to all people who live in, work in or visit Miami Dade County, and its surrounding areas.
